Bournemouth Family Festival 2011

Bournemouth Family Festival 2010 was a huge success with thousands of people turning up to Meyrick Park for this free family event. There were over 120 stalls, a stage with local youth bands playing and tons of free activities for children and young people to get involved, including a DJ, music and dance workshops.

The event this year is running from 10am – 8pm on Thursday 28 July. There will be around 200-250 stalls, plus an arena packed with local and national talent including dance groups, chainsaw wood sculpturing, police dog shows, sheep dog trials with ducks!, children’s entertainers and much, much more. Also featured will be a solar powered stage to cut emissions and go green!

Roadworks

You may already be aware that DCC have started to resurface the Hurn Road, and Fairmile Road, which works are scheduled over the next five weeks.

This work is taking place overnight, due to the very heavy disruptions and chaos that would ensue if carried out during the daytime.

This has caused a large number of complaints among residents in St Catherine's Ward so discussions are now in place to try to alleviate any further problems for residents along the way in our Ward and Portfield.

It is inevitable that some issues will arise, but we do hope not too many. If they do put in place any other working practice, then the number of nights will be extended therefore the disruptions will last longer.

If we can put up with the night time noise and a few diversions now, then this will enable the works to be completed in just a few nights rather than weeks.

I look forward to your comments, so that I can bring them into the discussions with County.

Please let me know your thoughts by email, blog or tweet.

Nearly everyone I spoke with over the past few weeks said that the road surface needs doing, unfortunately there is a price, but hopefully this will be over very quickly. I would urge you to understand the difficulty, but I do fully appreciate the problems that may occur.
